Any 40s wardrobe is not worth it's salt without a jerkin. This overlooked wardrobe staple features heavily in home sewing pattern collections and sears catalogs from 1941 on wards. No wonder, as it is useful and smart and slimming. A war-time favourite, it had the "big shoulder" look that was around (they actually called it that) and didn't take too much fabric, it didn't restrict movement, and kept your blouse clean if you were doing messy work, or prolonged the life of a blouse or dress that had seen better days The colour is a lovely tomato red in a square weave. We've added a large self covered button made by the last old factory in the UK still doing such things. It is an easy care polyester, so great for busy days and travelling. We've named the Martha collection after Shona's great grandmother, a real adventurer, who followed her children out to New Zealand after her husband retired. Now that is some trip to make later in life. We think the Martha set is all about adventuring, even if it is a bit more urban than a pilgrimage on a sailing ship to a new land. Just look at the pockets! They are big enough for all your days equipment: getting jobs done, making notes, or carrying important documents while travelling the high seas to start a new life. Vintage credentials and other points to note: Inspired from a vintage pattern (we have modernised the fit and the construction but not the style) Darts from the shoulder Suitable for war-time renactors Self covered button in the authentic style Machine washable 100% easy care polyester 2 useful pockets
