For something a little casual for the men, we have re-created a late 1930s "sport shirt" full of period correct details. The pattern that this shirt is based on dates from 1939. The style itself would have been fashionable a little earlier, as sewing patterns tend to follow behind high fashion. The width of the collar and the fashionable double flap pockets we popular for some time, so it would suit any 40s re-enactors. The fabric is a linen-look light weight cotton. You can see it has a two way "slub" in it giving it a cross-hatched appearance. A "slub" means that the cotton thread varies from thick to fine, so as it is woven it creates a irregularity in the finished cloth. Natural fibres such as wool, cotton and silk lend themselves to this design element easily and it is considered part of the appeal More details: Functioning patch pockets with buttoned flaps Inverted pleat design on the pockets Horizontal button holes Top stitched collar, button band, yoke, sleeve and flaps long side splits for ease of movement The back is lightly gathered and tucked onto the shoulder yoke for plenty of room to move Wide reinforced collar Specially dyed-to-match buttons Made in the UK All the materials and components were sourced from UK companies
